Field Development Planning and Concept Studies

Uhde is experienced in Field Development Planning (onshore and offshore).  We assist clients  to select the preferred development concept and confirm project feasibility:

  • Identification of Opportunities Concept Studies and Field Development
  • Economic/Financial Analysis
  • Field Development Scenarios
  • Greenfield & Brownfield
  • Sensitivity Analysis
  • Strategic Planning
  • Development Cost Estimation
  • Client Data Integration
  • Venture Planning Tool/Que$tor Software
  • Pre-Feasibility/Conceptual Design

Field Development Planning involves the identification of available options for the development of the Oil or Gas Field either onshore or offshore.  Screening studies are typically performed to compare development costs for these options, based on criteria agreed with the client.

Different economic scenarios and financial strategies will be investigated. Options for new (Greenfield) facilities may be reviewed vs integration with existing (brownfield) facilities.  Sensitivity parameters will be reviewed to determine the optimum scenario, optimum processing facility (whether Greenfield or Brownfield) and optimum development strategy to take forward to the next phase of engineering.

Uhde utilises sophisticated planning software such as the internally developed Venture Planning Tool (VPT) and Que$tor in conjunction with Pre-Feasibility/Conceptual design type studies to achieve the best outcome for our clients.

Example 1

An offshore planning study might have the objective to determine, for a given water depth, the most suitable development approach.  Options could include:

  • a fixed steel platform structure
  • a gravity base platform
  • a Tension Leg Platform
  • Spar Platform
  • a subsea development tied back to an FPSO or Semi-Submersible

In addition it may be required to evaluate:
  • the optimum number and location of Well Head Platforms/subsea wellheads feeding into a main facility;
  • the degree of offshore processing (basic processing with pipelines to shore or processing of oil/condensate and export via an Floating Storage and Offtake facility with shuttle tanker).

Uhde can perform planning and development studies quickly and economically to screen the options and determine the most cost effective solution(s) to take forward to the next phase of engineering.

Example 2

An onshore planning study to determine:

  • the degree of processing and value adding vs project cost
  • the optimum processing technologies
  • the location of the Processing Plant in relation to the wellsites/offshore/onshore pipelines
  • product export options; pipeline(s) vs trucking

Recent examples of Field Development Studies provided by Uhde are detailed below:

  • Exxon Mobil Production: Bass Strait (Australia), Turrum Kipper Project (Offshore)
  • Inpex: Browse Basin (Australia), Stranded Gas Supply (Onshore and Offshore)
  • Australian Energy Developments (AED): Puffin Oil Field Development (FPSO Offshore)
